Pocket Earrings #3
Inspired by the pockets of textured rock at the Northern end of Kings Beach in Caloundra, QLD. These unique earrings are cast in sterling silver and set with responsibly sourced rough sapphires from Madagascar. These sapphires range from light pink to lavender and dark pink. The earrings are finished matte, and it is possible to see my fingerprints in the patterns on the silver. Each earring in this series is unique.
The story of the stones: These sapphires were found by women miners in Madagascar, who fossick in areas around their villages in order to secure an income for their families. Their purchase by my gemologist, and subsequently me, means the women were paid a fair price for their stones, rather than selling to dealers, with an ambiguous and long supply chain, for a fraction of the price.
