Rock Shelf Ring, Greens
Shades of green sapphires hiding in worm holes made by the playful persistence of the sea. Inspired by seaside boulders at the Northern end of Kings Beach in Caloundra, QLD. Each piece in this series is unique. This ring is cast in sterling silver and finished matte. It has a sense of wonder and 'looking closer' as some of the holes are empty, some have sapphires and other are just beginning. Light comes through the front and the back of this design, as it sits raised on the finger. Size M.
The story of the stones: These sapphires were found by women miners in Madagascar, who fossick in areas around their villages in order to secure an income for their families. Their purchase by my gemologist, and subsequently me, means the women were paid a fair price for their stones, rather than selling to dealers, with an ambiguous and long supply chain, for a fraction of the price.
